At the same time as the SAGE was being drawn up, the lower Ain valley was listed under the Habitats Directive as a site of Community importance. This means it will be integrated in the Natura 2000 Network and the European Union will then be able to contribute to the preservation of the site. At the proposal of the SBVA (Lower Ain valley association), which is in charge of the implementation of the SAGE policies, the European Union accepted in July 2002 a LIFE-Nature programme entitled "Conservation of the habitats created by the dynamics of the Ain river", covering a period of 4.5 years. |
